OpenCourant (formerly OpenRadioss)
Open-source explicit dynamics solver for crash, impact and drop simulation, continuing the OpenRadioss code. Shirsh uses it on projects and runs training; there is no licence to buy.
Official websiteAbout OpenCourant (formerly OpenRadioss)
OpenCourant is an open-source explicit finite element solver for crash, impact and other highly nonlinear, short-duration events. It carries on the OpenRadioss code base, the open-source release of the Radioss solver, after Siemens closed the OpenRadioss project on 1 October 2026. The code stays under the GNU AGPL v3 licence, and the community project publishes ready-to-run builds for Linux and Windows. It handles large deformation, contact between many parts, elastic-plastic and damage material models, and failure, which is what crash, impact, drop and blast problems need.
Explicit time integration follows the event step by step, so the deformation, plastic strain and energy taken by each part come out directly instead of being guessed from an equivalent static load. Shirsh Technosolutions uses OpenCourant for impact and crash-type studies on safety products, structures and equipment, with material curves built from real test data and an energy balance check on every run before results go into a report.
Licensing and training. OpenCourant is open source, so Shirsh does not sell or license it and there is no licence fee to pay. What we offer is training: hands-on OpenCourant courses for engineers and teams who want to build, run and check their own explicit models, along with consulting support on live projects.
